Just when we thought that Vivo was done with the release of new mid-range phones in Pakistan in 2019 after the launch of Vivo V15 (Review) and V15 Pro, the company did something extraordinary i.e. it introduced a new S series in Pakistan. For the young generation that prefers beauty over everything, Vivo has brought Vivo S1 smartphone whose ultimate aim is to create an all-rounder which can provide top-notch performance while being pleasing to the eyes.
The company has been teasing the arrival of its much-hyped device for the past few days and luckily, we had a chance to spend some time with it ahead of its official launch in the country. We are still testing the phone for our detailed review but before that let’s see our first impressions of the Vivo S1 smartphone.
Unboxing & Features
Here’s what you will get inside the box and all the features of Vivo S1:
Design & Display
Vivo knows how to enchant its users with good looks and has used that knowledge to make Vivo S1 an eye candy among the other smartphones in the market. The smartphone comes with a stunning design language amplified by the presence of a glass body, a feature we have not even seen in the company’s popular V series yet. The frame of the smartphone, however, is still made of plastic.
At the back, we only have a triple camera array at the top left side of the smartphone and the absence of traditional fingerprint sensor (in favor of an in-display scanner) has left us with an undisturbed space at the back, complementing the stylish design of the mobile device.
Though the camera arrangement creates a slight bump at the back, the phone does not wobble when placed on a flat surface.
Coming to the phone’s buttons, we get the usual power button and volume rocker on the right side and a dedicated button for Jovi AI assistant at the left beneath the SIM slot.
At the bottom, we get a MicroUSB charging port, 3.5mm headphones, a microphone, and a speaker grille.
Flipping the phone over to the front, we see that Vivo S1 features 6.38 inches of SUPER AMOLED display with 1080 x 2340 pixels of screen resolution, 404 ppi pixels density, and a tiny waterdrop notch. which houses the front camera and other sensors.
The colors are quite vibrant and punchy on the screen, optimum for viewing multimedia on the smartphone. Moreover, you will face no difficulties in viewing the phone’s contents under direct sunlight outdoors.
The company has also moved the fingerprint sensor to the front and has tucked it away beneath the display. We’ll share more about the performance of this feature in our detailed review.
Performance & Battery
Vivo S1 is the first smartphone which comes with MediaTek’s P65 chipset (built on 12nm technology) accompanied by 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via MicroSD card. The new chipset comes with Mali G52 GPU which according to MediaTek provides faster performance and better gaming experience.
The device also packs a 4500mAh battery and will run on FunTouch 9 based on Android Pie right out of the box. Looking at the hardware and the software of the smartphone, we are expecting great performance from the device. We will surely let you know the phone’s real-life performance in our detailed review.
For photographers, the smartphone offers a triple camera setup at the back featuring 16MP, 1/2.8″, 1.12µm, PDAF wide lens, 8MP, f/2.2, 13mm ultrawide lens and 2MP, f/2.4, depth sensor.
For selfies, Vivo S1 has a 32MP shooter at the front which lives inside the notch. The company has always put a lot of weightage on its selfie cameras and we are excited to see whether it will be similar or better than the one present on V15 series.
Vivo has successfully left a leaving impression on us with its new mid-range smartphone which boasts a beautiful glass body and display. We have yet to form an opinion about the phone’s camera and chipset but what we have seen, we have very high expectations from Vivo’s new S series. We will soon share our detailed review to let you know how the phone performed in our real-life tests.
