Just like we hinted you beforehand, WhatsApp has finally launched its standalone Desktop application for the MAC OS X and Windows. The functions of WhatsApp desktop app are very similar to the WhatsApp Web service, which allows you to use the services of WhatsApp through the web browser.
For Apple users, the new WhatsApp desktop app is available on the MAC OS X v10.9 and higher while for the Windows users, it is available on the Windows 8 and higher.
WhatsApp has broken the hearts of the Windows XP, and Windows Seven lovers because the new application is not available on these old versions of the Windows.
We can say that the Mountain View-based company made a big mistake by ignoring the Windows 7 users because more than 47 percent of the desktop users still rely on Windows 7 while the users of Windows 8 are still at 8.4 percent.
Microsoft claims that the Windows 10 is now active on more than 200 million devices, but these 200 million devices are mostly the company’s Lumia-branded smartphones and the Xbox One, not the desktop computers or laptops. However, we may expect a version of WhatsApp for Windows 7 in the coming months.
Features of WhatsApp Desktop App
The new WhatsApp desktop client for Windows is 61MB in size and the MAC version is 51MB. The application comes with a lot of convenient features such as the native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, file sharing etc.
The application starts automatically when you turn on your computer. Just like WhatsApp Web, the new desktop app lets you message with friends and family while your phone stays in your pocket, meaning, the desktop app does not work if you are not running the WhatsApp on your smartphone at the same time.
For using the desktop app, you have to scan a QR code that displays when you launch the desktop app of WhatsApp. To scan the code, launch the WhatsApp app on your smartphone and from the menu, tap “WhatsApp Web” option. The desktop app will then be connected to your smartphone as soon as the code is scanned. The new desktop app is synced with WhatsApp on your mobile device.
WhatsApp desktop app works only on the 64bit version of Windows 8 and 10. You can download the desktop app from here
