Chiming in with the PSL 2019 fever, TCL, one of the world’s top three global TV brands, introduced a special edition Zalmi S6500 TV, embracing their sponsorship of Peshawar Zalmi. TCL is known for its awe-inspiring TVs and thankfully we were granted an opportunity to spend time with the company’s budget product to see how it fares in the real world. Let’s dive into what we found after our extensive testing:
What’s Inside the Box
Once you open the box, you’ll be greeted by the 40 inches variant of TCL S6500 which comes with a metallic stand and a small zip-locked bag.
The bag contains a remote control, product warranty card, user manual, screws, power cable, and an AV adapter.
The Chinese company has successfully managed to introduce a classic design at a budget price. From the first look, you can clearly see the simple yet sophisticated s design of the TV can adjust easily in every living room without clashing with the surroundings.
The back of the TCL S6500 is not too bulky and the user can easily manage to reach the back to plug in any other hardware with the device.
The TV comes with 2 HDMI ports, a port for cable connection, LAN port, USB 2.0 port, AV-IN port, SPDIF port, and headphone jack.
The bezels on the screen are not too big and thus offer a large screen space for the viewing. The TCL branding at the bottom also does not take away anything from the sleek design of the TV.
Display and Viewing Experience
TCL S6500 comes with 1920 x 1080 resolution with support for 2K content. You can easily watch UHD content on this TV which comes in handy especially if you are an avid user of Netflix like me. With the contrast ratio of 5000:1 and Micro Dimming feature which adjusts the bright and dark spots separately, TCL has provided a truly immersive display in a budget category.
The TV does a great job at color reproduction and doesn’t fail to do justice to its affordable price. It also surpasses many budget devices when it comes to the viewing experience and is a good choice for gamers who do not want to spend a fortune on buying a TV.
The TV comes with Dolby Audio and despite being a budget device, the sound of the TCL S6500 exceeded our expectation. Though it may seem shrill at certain times (which is quite normal for a budget device), you cannot find fault with the volume of the TV. If you want to use the TV for gaming, you may invest in a good speaker only to enhance the overall experience.
Software and Performance
TCL S6500 comes with Android O and thanks to it being a smart TV you can download different TV-related apps from the play store while Netflix and YoutTube come pre-installed with the device.
The TV does not show any sign of lag but if you are connecting it with your WiFi, you have to keep it in an 8 to 12-meter radius otherwise it may have some difficulty in catching the signals. The device is powered by a quad-core A53 processor coupled with Mali470x2 GPU, 1.5 GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Using TCL S6500 is quite a breeze. The user interface is quite easy to understand and is user-friendly. You may find some bloatware but with the 8GB of memory, you will have not much problem with adding the apps that you prefer over the pre-installed ones.
The remote of TCL S6500 comes with very minimum minimal buttons and thus, it may seem confusing at the start especially if you are coming from using a TV from a different company like Sony, Orient, Ecostar, etc. but once you’ll soon get used to it. The volume bar responds quickly to when called upon and it is even faster than the one seen in the company’s flagship TCL C6 which we reviewed earlier this year.
Though the TV comes with Google Assistant, it does not has voice capability to respond to your commands via speech.
Price and Availability
The 40 inches TCL S6500 is available in Pakistan and according to the official site of the company it is priced at Rs. 42,990. When buying from different outlets, it would be advantageous to make sure that you are receiving an original product with a proper warranty.
Currently, many companies are trying to capture the TV market especially the budget category as people are moving from their old TV sets to the LCD trend. In this environment, TCL S6500 has definitely made a place for itself by offering quality features at a very affordable price.
If you are looking for a smart TV that does not burn through your pocket, the TCL S6500 is definitely a worthy choice
